This work is populated by dark black triangles that rest atop pops of bright red, yellow, orange, and what many artists might recognize as “painters tape blue”. These fractured black triangular masses seem as if they are the fragments of a once intact, rectangular whole. Compositionally, Chavira’s work feels balanced, harmonious, not unlike Piet Mondrian, if Mondrian had used diagonals. Both artists favor small square compositions and thin bands of black that stop just short of the edge of the painting. This style marks a departure for Chavira, who has worked primarily in ornate portraiture.Acquisition
