Description

By the fourth century Christianity was well established in Ethiopia, predating its arrival in Europe and elsewhere. The cross serves as the country's most important and decorative artistic emblem; crosses adorn church tops, indicating the structure's divine purpose, and are carried on poles in religious processionals or ceremonies. Smaller hand crosses are used for personal devotion.
