tag says Yoruba, also labeled B831 Foundation - Weber (2/12/03) #71, Yaka? The Yaka culture is a people indigenous to the southwestern region of the Democractic Republic of the Congo. The different significant craftmanships that the Yaka are known for ranges from carving, basketry, weaving, and metalwork. This mask is known as a ndeema mask for the n-khanda intiation ceremonies held by the Yaka people for boys entering manhood. Masks are made from the raffia palm plant native to different tropical regions in Africa.
