Context

Namchi dolls are dolls sculpted by the blacksmiths in Cameroon and given to young girls as toys to play with. The dolls are usually wrapped in leather or wrapped in different beads. These dolls are given to the girls to prepare them for motherhood; they would carry them around the same way that mothers carry their children. These were also given to girls because it was thought to promote fertility.
