Context
Lerner’s series of photography focused on capturing the “eye”, of which there are a few representations in this selection, create associations between seeing and looking, as both photographer and subject from Chicago to New York and even Tokyo. His experimentations with light box photography is represented in some of the light “bird” photographs and abstractions or overlays and double exposures of bodies. And, his 1930s representations of immigrants to Chicago are also represented amongst this set.
