This drawing is the preliminary sketch of one half of a two painting series (both with the same title) that was originally commissioned to be hung on the wall in two alcoves of the patron’s home. In the artist’s own words, “the title suggests a duality, of course, but also an ambiguous tension between the two panels, resisting any effort to imagine a satisfying link between them while inviting it nonetheless. It’s a metaphor of art itself in offering an unattainable make-believe reality.”Acquisition
