Context

This piece by Piotr Kunce is a much more contemporary example of the Polish Poster tradition as it was made in 1999, after the fall of communism in Poland. Kunce attended the Academy of Fine Arts Krakow and graduated with a degree in poster design and lithography. Kunce went on to work as the Head of the Poster Studio at the Academy of Fine Arts Krakow (his alma mater) beginning in 1981. Kunce’s work has been featured in a wide variety of international exhibitions in the 21st century. Kunce was a key figure in continuing the traditions of Polish poster design after the medium became less prominent due to the fall of communism and ability for artists to work in other mediums (https://piotrkunce.eurotone.eu/). Kunce is still alive and working today. This specific poster was created for the polish based International Jazz Piano Festival in 1999.
