Acrylic on hand-woven textileContext
Mango, 2014, is an example of her painting on top of textiles. She weaves textiles from a loom, applies them over stretcher bars and proceeds to work into the surface with paint, retracing the pattern of the textile, and completely omitting some aspect of the pattern. There is both an additive and reductive part of this process. Bittman's color palette appears as though it was formulated to match or compliment the textile, allowing the viewer to appreciate a sense of design as well as a historical note to viewing the object from which to paint can also be applied to the object itself and thus recreated as its own work of art.Acquisition
