Context

This piece by Jan Jaromir Aleksiun (1940-) was made for The Instrumental Theatre of Ryszard Gwalbert Misek and its production of Sonata Widm (The Ghost Sonata) in 1978. The theater was “an experimental music and theatre troupe founded in 1975 by Ryszard Gwalbert Miśek (1947-2010), who previously led avant-garde formations awarded at jazz festivals” and previous instrumental theaters. The Ghost Sonata, originally a Swedish play, is a modernist drama exploring themes of life and death as well as affluence and poverty.
