Context

Pawel Udorowiecki was another graphics artist within the Polish Poster School who studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. Udorowiecki ran the Lodz branch of the National Publishing Agency and during his time there, in collaboration with others, he developed the “blocked sequences” printing technique. Udorowiecki worked with a variety of theaters including the one for which this Hamlet poster was made. The historical significance of this piece is found most within its connection to the larger Polish Poster School, but there is not much notable outside of this. The “Polish Poster School” was a group of artists who not only used posters as a medium for artist expression but for general expression as well. Artists in the Polish Poster School used painterly techniques and intense symbolism in order to place their posters in the context of fine art as well as politically charged art (https://www.projekt26.com/polish-school-of-posters-intro?srsltid=AfmBOoqcku03mzYV459gzeAJ1nz1r2niFfKyF4gNE1XDyHuPMMPX2y3N).
