Context

Cruikshank was a well known illustrator of the 1800’s based in London, England. He was known for his satirical political cartoons, children’s books, and temperance propaganda. It is estimated that he illustrated over 850 books, in addition to the cartoons he produced for various periodicals. This image is typical of his work, drawn in a theatrical style with a comical atmosphere.
