This is a Polish theater poster advertising the play Karaluchy. The background is a gradient of red, yellow, and blue going downwards. A man in a red jumper takes up the right side of the poster, who seems to be minorly ripping into the background to reveal an even deeper blue color. On the left side of the composition, a girl hangs from a rope attached to the man’s arm, and her legs are wrapped around one of his. She is wearing a blue jumper and a cap on her head. On the top left, the tile is written in text along with pivotal figures for the play. In the bottom left going vertically there is smaller text.Context
There is little information about Franus Maslewski, other than the fact he is listed as the artist on DPAM’s entry. His work is a Polish theater poster advertising the play Karaluchy, which premiered on March 5, 1983. From the Encyclopedia of Polish Theater,
“The Nowy Theatre prepared another premiere - this time in the Wanda Warskan's Piwnica - a drama written in 1893 by the then eight-year-old Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz ‘Karaluchy.’ The director of the performance is Zbigniew Mich, who used fragments of several dramatic works, notes, recordings of young Witkacy’s scenes and poems for the implementation of the new play.”Acquisition
