Two sides of a black and white pixelated face seem to come together, creating a cyclops like figure with a prominent eye. The eye seems to be crying out splattered tears in blue and red. The inscriptions are in white and in each corner of the poster. Theater.Artwork Details

Cieslewicz was Polish born but French national graphic artist, illustrator, and photographer, however, unlike the previous artists, he did not attend the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, instead, he attended the School of Artistic Industry in Lvov, Krakow’s Fine Art Lycee, and Krakow Academy of Fine Arts, so he was quite well educated. Cieslewicz was another of the more prominent figures within the Polish Poster School, as his work has been widely exhibited and written about, with one of the most significant instances being his inclusion in a MOMA exhibit. The “Polish Poster School” was a group of artists who not only used posters as a medium for artist expression but for general expression as well. Artists in the Polish Poster School used painterly techniques and intense symbolism in order to place their posters in the context of fine art as well as politically charged art.Acquisition
