Photograph of Chicago artist Barbara Rossi in white outfit in red and yellow makeshift house.
Context
Carroll started this project as a way to say thanks and celebrate Chicago artists. Each photograph was specific to the artist and reflected their personality and artwork. In a 1991 Chicago Tribune Magazine article, Carroll states "referring directly to or re-creating some aspect of the imagery in the artist's work became the working method for the entire project."
In the same article she notes that this photograph with Rossi was one of the most complicated to shoot in the entire series. Barbara had spent a lot of time in India, and she wanted to give her photo the sense of a temple, a place of peace and serenity.
