Bright, painted elements in the lower right-hand corner and top half. Additionally, the work is punctuated by small cartoon-like drawings in pen lending a dream-like and even pop sensibility to the image. Many of the figures appear to be iterated, which are indicative of the spectral and temporal character of many of Doremus’s works.Artwork Details

Doremus worked for some time making maps in the cartography department at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, an experience that informs her mature painting as her work often strikes a careful balance between structure and spontaneity as she layers free-form, blind drawings on top of backgrounds that resemble grids or chalkboards. Like architectural drawings and schematics, Doremus’s work often includes annotations and erasures that emphasize the gestural and processual nature of her studio practice.Acquisition
