Geometric shapes and lines in bright blue, red, purple, and green, defined by short brushstrokes.Context
Though the Chicago art world of the 1970’s was dominated by the “Imagist” group, who valued vibrant surrealism, artist William Conger was still able to make his way into the scene with his non-objective works. Having grown up in Chicago, it is said that his designs may reflect the landscape of the city and lake. In the early 1980’s, he formed the “Allusive Abstractionists,” a group of Chicago artists (including Miyoko Ito and Richard Loving) who focused on abstract images. This piece is typical of Conger's style as it features bright colors and interwoven shapes.Acquisition
