South River, New Jersey
VISIT OUR WEBSITEThe South River Historical & Preservation Society is an all volunteer organization dedicated to preserving the history of South River, New Jersey for future generations. Founded in 1988, the society is based in the South River Museum, a 19th century church that was converted into the South River War Memorial Free Public Library in the 1920s. After the library moved in 1979, the building was used for municipal offices. It was subsequently restored and opened as a local history museum in 1999. The building is on both the New Jersey and the National Register of Historic Places. The first floor of the building is used for exhibits and meetings. The second floor, which consists of a balcony around three sides of the building, is used for office space and storage. The collections touch on all aspects of borough history including: schools, churches and houses of worship, businesses, organizations, daily life, events and celebrations, and more.
