Goldsmith Groceries and Crockery. 5 people are in front of the store. Oregon City or Eugene, OR. A. G Goldsmith (Aaron) operated from the 1860s to 1894. Goldsmith was a Drygoods merchant born in France in 1820 to German parents. He came to the U.S. in 1843 and then to San Francisco in 1853. Three years later, in 1856, he moved to Eugene. His daughter Celia moved to Oregon City and opened a millinery shop. He died in 1904. He was interred at the Jewish cemetery in Portland. The Services were held at the Beth Israel Synagogue. Note: The original description placed the photograph in Oregon City. However, further research is needed to locate A. Goldsmith's merchant shop in Oregon City. One building listed as a General Store in an 1884 Sanborn Map may be the location of a storefront similar to the one in the photograph. See attached. However, the entry steps and window framing are different. At this time, I am not convinced this structure existed in Oregon City. (JAH)Made/Created
