Description

Photo description and historical information on the "John Day Queen", a river boat which operated on the John Day River near Clarno, Oregon in Wasco County. A two page letter from Art Campbell indicates the information provided is from an unpublished book on the Clarno area. Included in this record is a photo of the "John Day Queen", the two page letter from Art Campbell to Wilmer Gardner, and 16 pages of material on the "John Day Queen" from Art Campbell's unpublished book. The steamboat was a miniature patterned from the larger boats that operated on the Columbia River, and was an ambitious project for an amateur builder. When completed it was 48' long, 10' wide and about 10' tall.
