Hello Folks,
Sat afternoon, a half day off. We didn't get off last week. We've been on the firing range for the last two weeks. Got up at 430 walked five miles, [fired] all day walk back at 8 o 830 at nite. a little tiresome. We go on guard duty tomorrow nite for 24 hours. That'll be nice too.
Helen's coming down next week end. Can't wait for next week to get here. I've only been out of camp three times. Went into a church supper one Sunday evening, pretty nice. Attended church after the supper It was on Mother's day.
Called Mid & Elva a couple of Sundays ago missed Elva by about 5 minutes. It takes about 3 hours to get a call through. They can't handle the calls down here. It looks like it might rain. It sure is the rainy season here. By the way I qualified as a marksman. Now comes the bayonet. That's what I want to qualify in. Boy the jiggers down here are terrible. Their a small thing itch like hell.
No we haven't barracks. We sleep in tents, 6 to a tent, 20 ft square There's rumor of out moving to Columbus, Ind. Some say there some say over there Got a letter from the chief. He's pretty much hog tied now isn't he. They tell me they wouldn't take Blinky to the army. Tough luck. It's a tough life No I'm not promoted. I'm just a platoon guide. It's a Sgt's rating some time. If I hold it.
I thought I'd get it last week but I didn't. So will forget about it. I hear its pretty warm up there too. Its raining at present and when it rains here it rains. We had inspection this morning and I don't like three things. They inspect your guns & tent and raise hell if anything's wrong.
Its damp all through the night and when you put your clothes on in the morning their damp. They ought to give it back to the French. It's shining out now that means rain tomorrow.
The Herald gets here on Monday, Bill & Mary Andrews sends me the Cleveland P. Dealer. It comes in bunches one and then 2.
Well can't think of anymore to write. But I wouldn't know that town anymore. Tell everyone I said Hello So Long
Chuck.
P.S. Hows the League coming out. Talked with Abe Hamilton the other nite.
If you get a envelope with no letter let me know. hahaha
Think I'll go over to the canteen for a coke.
