Boat Type: Skiff, Steel Hull
Builder: Unknown
Model: Unknown
Length: 14' Beam: 45"
Date Built: Unknown
This is a double-ended rowing skiff in the style of the St. Lawrence River Skiff, with a steel hull taking the place of wood planking. The boat has wood ribs, decks, rails, floorboards, and even stems, all joined to a galvanized steel hull with a fake lapstrake effect. The woodwork is very crude, suggesting that this boat was not the experiment of a wooden boat builder, but rather of a new company.
The boat has bow and stern flotation tanks, proud surface plate oarlocks and oars. The condition is good, except for old varnish and peeling paint. EVS 08
Note: previous record says this boat is from 1880. Evidence is not clear.Collection

General Notes
Note
Notes: This skiff is galvanized steel over a wood frame. It is the only one like it around here, as it was built in Michigan. It resembles a St. Lawrence skiff.
