Scope and Content

A collection consisting of photographs, brochures, and ephemera from Bill Akin. One series of photographs records recreational and tournament fishing in Montauk and Bimini during the 1950s and 1960s. Photographs include portraits of Bill pictured with his catch, Deep Sea Club awards dinners, tournament result signs, fishing from the dock and boat, dock life, and damage from Hurricane Carol in 1954 on the Montauk Yacht Club and Port Judith, Rhode Island. Another series depicts Akin's home at the former summer cottage of Carl Fisher. Documents and ephemera include brochures from Deep Sea Club, Montauk Sportfishing Magazine, and International Fishing Championships. The collection also includes an identification card for Bill Akin's father, Robert Akin, and a World War II ration book from 1943.
