Scope and Content

In this interview, Donnie Braddick reminisces about tuna fishing off Montauk in the 1970s, 80s, and 90s. Donnie grew up in Huntington Station, New York and spent weekends of his youth fishing with his father in Montauk. He relocated to Montauk full-time, ran a charter boat, and later, using rod and reel, fished tuna commercially. Donnie shares a story from 1986, when he reeled in the biggest shark caught on rod and reel, weighing 3,427 pounds. As a longtime fisherman, Donnie provides insight into the fishing industry on the Atlantic, fishing regulations, local captains and charter boats, and dock life in Montauk. Donnie and the interviewer, Pete Chelkowski a documentary filmmaker, met while working on a television show called Fighting Tuna on Discovery.
