ARC.1057Scope and Content
A collection of 90 digital photographs documenting the Pitts and Burke families in Montauk, New York. The materials were scanned as collateral material to accompany an oral history with Emily Burke Cullum. Emily was born in 1928 at the family's cabin in the old fishing village on Fort Pond Bay. Her parents, Leo Burke and Evangeline (Vangy) Pitts are also represented in the collection. Her mother was among a group of families who had arrived in Montauk from D'Escousse, Nova Scotia, at the turn of the century. The collection includes photographs of Emily and her siblings as children growing up in the fishing village and later Shepherd's Neck neighborhood. The photographs also include 10 copies from Ralph George of fishing excursions and vessels in the 1930s.Archive Details
