Scope and Content

A small collection of 36 photographs documenting the Syvertsen family's recreational life, school years, homestead, winters in Montauk, and Sigurd Syvertsen's occupation as a fisherman. Sigurd Syvertsen came to Montauk in 1906 from Homlestrand, Norway, at which time he started in business as a trap fisherman. Later he worked in the lobster business, was a veteran of World War I, and was a founding member of the Montauk Fire Department. His children attended the Montauk Public School, their class photographs are pictured in the collection along with many of children of Montauk's early families.
