ARC.0601.1Description
Aerial view photo of Star Island in Lake Montauk taken during the 1930s. The most prominent facilities on Star Island in this period were the Montauk Yacht Club and the Night Club-Casino. After the destruction of the Fishing Village from the 1938 hurricane, and the subsequent takeover of the Village by the U.S. Navy in 1942, these waters became "the" Montauk Harbor as it is known today where all boats for pleasure, fishing, ferries and coast Guard are moored. Gosman's Dock (and area) is located on the point of land near the left breakwater. - Paul T. Cook, 2007Photograph Details
