Photographs and photocopies donated by Barbara Sullivan Gilmartin and Tim Gilmartin (siblings). The photographs primarily document the navy's occupation in Montauk during World War I, activities and events at the Montauk Manor, and pictures of their father Richard T. Gilmartin. Twenty photographs relating to the U.S. Navy in Montauk include images of the barracks, seaplane hangars, ramps, flying boats, dirigibles, and many images of unidentified sailors jokingly posing with each other. Photographs of the Montauk Manor include interior views from the 1940s, exterior views from the 1950s, and unidentified functions and luncheons circa the 1940s and 1950s. Various views capture the west window dining room, beauty parlor salon, dining hall café, grounds, and the tennis auditorium. Photographs of Richard T. Gilmartin are from a campaign to promote handicap accessibility to the grounds and parking lot of the Montauk Point Lighthouse, circa the late 1950s to early 1960s.Archive Details
