A B/W photograph of the Congregational Church. The picture shows the First Parish Church when it still had a steeple. According to Thompson Eldridge Ashby's "History of the First Parish Church in Brunswick, Maine." "...[O]n July 28, 1848, just a little over two months from the date of its authorization by the Parish, Dr. Adams records: 'The new spire was raised today.' We have no record of the dimensions of the new spire...The spire was set in place on July 28, 1848. There it stood until October 30, 1866, just a little over eighteen years...'On October 30, 1866,' the [Parish] record states, 'during a furious southereasterly rain storm, the spire was seen to rock to and fro for a moment, and then, going clear of the House [I take this to mean the church itself], and turning completely over, it lay in ruin in the street.'"
