Description

A color photograph of the house at 75 Federal Street known as the Parker Cleaveland House. This house represents one of Melcher's more successful attempts to utilize a formal "Federal" design. The 4 chimneys on the outside walls permitted 8 fireplaces. Samuel Melcher III built this house in 1805-06. The front section (the Main House) and a one story summer kitchen and adjoining porch were completed by Nov. of 1806 at a cost of $2,840.71. The shed, carriage house and barn were added at various times during the next fifty years.
