A B/W photograph of Senator Edward W. Wheeler. Edward Warren Wheeler was born in Brunswick, ME 12 Apr 1876, son of Henry W. and Mary (Adams) Wheeler. A member of the Bowdoin College class of 1898, he left in 1897 to study law. He became a member of the Maine Bar in 1900 and was in private practice in Brunswick from 1900 to 1922 when he joined the legal department of Maine Central Railroad. He was General Counsel of Maine Central, Portland Terminal Company and the Boston and Maine Railroad, retiring in 1946. He was counsel for Bowdoin College for more than 25 years and received two honaray degrees from Bowdoin, A.M. in 1923 and LL.D in 1939. A member of the Maine State Senate in 1909-10, Wheeler was Chairman of the Board of Prison Commissioners of Maine 1917-20 and was the elected Moderator of Brunswick's town meetings for more than 50 years.
