The back of the picture of a P-3C air plane reads as follows: "NEWSBUREAU, LOCKHEED-CALIFORNIA COMPANY (A DIVISION O F LOCKHEED AIRCRAFT CORPORATION) BURBANK. PHONE (213) 847-6815 Writer contact: Will Morrison FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
P-3C PATROL--The U.S. Navy's P-3C Orion antisubmarine patrol aircraft, built by the Lockheed-California Company, is the latest in the series of Orions that now have logged over one million flying hours since they first went into service with the U.S. Navy in 1962, and later with the Air Forces of three foreign countries. Earlier P-3B Orions are in use by the Royal Australian Air Force, the Royal New Zealand Air Force, and the Royal Norwegian Air Force. Orions worldwide maintain a constant peace-keeping vigil over free world sea lanes, and provide an airborne barrier to hostile undersea activity by unfriendly submarines. During the 1970 fiscal year, which ended June 30, all models of the P-3 had flown 218,000 hours without an accident." Undated
