Notes

Photo albums and photo memory quilts are popular mementos passed between family, friends, and community members. Album quilts flourished in the mid-19th century originating in Baltimore but are still a prevalent practice along the Eastern seaboard, now often featuring tourist destinations. These two women, Florence Newlands, and Donna Wyer, are holding a Maine-themed photo quilt featuring scenes of Portland Head Light, a Chickadee, crabs, boats, and various other lighthouses. The cross-stitched quilt was created to be raffled off at the Harpswell Neck Fire Department Auxiliary’s Christmas Fair.
