Labor of Love: Creating Art and CommunityNotes
Senter’s Department Store, a Brunswick, ME staple for many years, regularly hosted an art show of local school students' work. In this photo, Robin Giles, the display manager, places Hawthorne and Longfellow School students’ work on display. Several portraits, landscape paintings, and abstract pieces done by gifted fifth-grade students are posted in the store’s window. Local businesses often displayed grade school artwork as a way to show support for the creative development of the town’s students and foster a connection with the community outside of the school walls.
