Adaptation and Resistance: Indigenous History of the Pejepscot RegionNotes
Abenaki people began using axes thousands of years ago. Abenaki people utilized axes, along with gouges, adzes, and whetstones, to fell trees and hollow and construct dugout canoes and larger ocean-going vessels.
Stone ax head with a wider end narrowed to a wedge. There is a groove around the middle for attaching a handle.
