Description

In 1917, Louis Moen was again commissioned by the Northern Pacific Railroad to produce a Yellowstone poster. The new image Moen produced featured a touring bus in front of Jupiter Terrace, located at Mammoth Hot Springs. Notably, the bus again is greenish grey rather than yellow. The poster, while mainly about Yellowstone, also advertises other western national parks and locales: Rainier, Columbia River National Highway and Alaska. The poster depicted was used to advertise the illustrated “Traveltalks” conducted by Charles Norton Hunt (1855-1919). C. N. Hunt was an Iowa native who became a lawyer, judge, evangelist and noted lecturer, particularly on western parks. His law practice started in Jamestown, ND, after which he moved to Bismarck, ND, where he became a one-term judge, finally settling in Minneapolis, MN, for the rest of his legal career. Mr. Moen used Northern Pacific Railroad images, both stills and moving pictures to illustrate his talks. He died in 1919 in Iowa, crushed by a train while trying to re-board.
