Treatment Notes

Tested cyclomethicone as a barrier for cleaning using distilled water... Red paint was removed in test spot so the method was halted. 91% also removed paint. Tested ecosurf with distilled water on the tide line after the area was saturated with cyclomethicone. The area was exposed to heat with an air blower. 91% isopropyl alcohol and cyclomethicone were used to clear. No visible change in timeline. Same method with the addition of ecosurf to distilled water resulted in an area that was overcleaned along the edge of the silk. All pigments are water soluble tested green, brown, gold, blue. 91%%% alcohol. Didn’t appear to cause any change.

Treatment Notes

Tested with gellen gum 4% on stain and sooty surface. Cut Mylar protection stencil for painted surface because wetting occurred after 3 hours of contact. Tested with 6% gellen gum. Attempted sot sponge at base. Used D4 once gel was removed to avoid tidelines. Soot sponged entire surface. Made large sheets of 6% gellen gum and treated lower half of painting. Checked ever hour for results. Then made sheets to cover bottom half of painting and allowed to sit overnight. Removed gels and hung silk. Saturated with D4 to avoid tidelines. Placed gel in areas where tidelines still appeared.
