TestingDate(s)
Feb 15, 2019 - Feb 22, 2019Treatment Notes
Testing of D4 cyclomethicone to remove paper fibers o bottom left and right turn-over edges. Continued testing of D4 and pH-adjusted waters to remove paper fibers. Determined the need for two phases of treatment: FIRST removing paper and as much embedded fiber as possible via following method. (1) saturate with D4 on brush; (2) apply pH 5.0 ms6000 water with brush through tissue; (3) gently remove with tweezers; (4) remove any excess fibers with small sponge swab dampened with adjusted water. SECOND cleaning dirt and grime and any remaining paper fibers. Testing valves in and water solutions at 10% and 20% w/v. Continued testing with Velvesil, determined it is not best material for removing paper fiber remnants, may use for cleaning. Best removal method is pH-adjusted water on a sponge swab, pH 5.0 used to remove tissue paper. Used small scissors to cut away paper not adhered to paint layer. Continued removal of paper.Acute Treatment

2. pH 5.00/6.000 mS adjusted water + citric acid (chelator)
3. pH5.00/6.000 mS adusted water + EDTA (chelator)

Surface CleanDate(s)
Mar 5, 2019 - Mar 15, 2019Treatment Notes
Saturated surface with D4. Cleaned with ME and then rinsed with D4 (D4 with brush/ME with brush/D4 with cotton swab). Red paint is very sensitive to ME. Red and other sensitive paints were cleaned with Velvesil Plus + 40% adjusted water (5.00 pH/6.000mS). The gel was removed with cotton swab and surface rinsed with D4. Cleaned lint and dust using cotton swabs and sponge swabs. Flipped the painting on its side and removed paper from two edges. Saturated paper with D4 and with cotton swabs with pH 5.0/6.000mS adjusted water to pull paper off. Continued cleaning painting as above. Cleaning edges with Velvesil Plus and 5.0 pH solution.Acute Treatment
