TestingDate(s)
Jan 8, 2019 - Jan 13, 2019Treatment Notes
Testing and beginning varnish removal, starting at bottom right corner and moving along bottom edge. Using Naptha, 1/5th of glossy varnish removed. Blue color coming away on swabs confirmed to be due to varnish rather than pigment lifting (did not come up blue on child’s legs). Blue areas still sensitive and susceptible, so being quick in application. Finished varnish removal; reconsolidated cracks in mother’s left arm/child’s right cheek.Acute Treatment
RetouchingDate(s)
Jan 13, 2019 - Jan 23, 2019Treatment Notes
In-filled losses with clear gesso, removed flyspecks with pH adjusted water (8.5). Fills pared back to be level with surface. Barrier layer of Larapol, in-painting with watercolor. Removed adhesive substance of top edge with Naptha. May be the same material as the varnish removed from the painting’s surface. It pulls away like PVA residue. In-painting using Bremer and Daniel Smith watercolors.Acute Treatment
