"Aurora, Goddess of the Dawn, appears in the Eastern skies clothed in sky-blue pink which turns to pink, orange, red and gold as the morning advances. Once upon a time stories about her were first told to the Roman children long ago.
Her name appears on maps of this area in 1890 when her name was given to a small part of what is now your city by a group of investors who called themselves the Colfax Trust Company.
The area was extended to four square miles and incorporated as the Town of Fletcher on May 4, 1891. The name was changed back to Aurora, February 25, 1907.
The area remained four square miles until around 1950. Today it is 56 square miles and is the fastest growing city over 100,000 population in the United States.
Aurora, "Gateway to the Rockies", and one of Colorado's three largest cities, is the trade center of eastern Colorado. This area is larger than the States of Rhode Island and Connecticut combined.
Not too many years ago huge herds of buffalo reaching as far as the eye can see beckoned Indian tribes from new Mexico. Oklahoma, Nebraska and Wyoming. Today, tourists from these states as well as nearly every other state and many foreign countries find it is an area equally inviting. Fine motels, hotels and restaurants bid visitors welcome. Its fine stores and shopping centers with ample parking make shopping a pleasure.
We thank our pioneers who laid the foundations for our wide streets, parks, schools, libraries, water and telephone and power systems which we enjoy today. They planned wisely and well..."Book Details
