Description

A nearly head-on picture of the Surfside Hotel from the water with a clear view of the long sea wall and granite outcroppings above the sandy beach. The Pavilion Hotel grounds were used during the Civil War as a recruiting office. It became the Surfside Hotel, and burned on Saturday, October 17, 1914. It was soon replaced by the Tavern, and that building still exists although no longer as a hotel and without the elegance and architectural flare of the original Pavilion.
