"My Dear Mrs. Follansbee - The rain, East wind, came to the Hawthorne, East Gloucester last Thursday, Mr. Waite took a second chill and was so ill I could not leave him. I just had a telephone message from him, he says he is better. My sister & I are enjoying everything about here, this is a delightful place I am sure you would enjoy it. This is the Wayside where we stay nights — it is so quaint inside, so nice & clean we just enjoy it. I am sure it is 100 years old and the old time house kept as it used to be. Sincerely with love - Mary C. Waite - July 13, 1913."
