Dear Faysal,
What a mess in today's world. Until recently I thought, Lebanon was spared political and social unrest.
When Prince William of Orange (1533-1584), the founding father of the Netherlands (in statu nascendi) was murdered in 1584, his last words, according to the legend, were: "Ayez pitié avec moi et avec mon pauvre peuple."
The "lingua franca" in those days was French. "Pity me and my poor people," is the English translation. This sentence comes into my mind, when I see on the telly the video's of the civil unrest in Beirut. These are domestic revolts, I assume in response to the soaring costs of the standard of costs of living. The unrest in the surrounding countries must, without fail,
have a negative impact as well on the well-being of the citizens of Lebanon. "Pauvre peuple" we sympathize with you.
Another headache for May is the problem related to the street revolts in Beirut. It is hoped that these will be resolved in time for the coming Marathon on 10th November Feisal do you have enrolled already to participate this year?
Wish you all our love. The best thing to do is to stay healthy, wealthy and wise
Love to you and May, Vera & Adriaan
P.S.
Feisal , do you have time to read an interestin book written by an eminent English historian?
