Dear Mr Enrico,
It's been 10.5 months since we left Pianello. I hope you and the family are in good health. Have you been on holiday since then?
We made two short trips; We did enjoy a five-day trip to Madrid and a not exactly relaxing three-day trip to Paris to visit museums.
That is why, we are very much looking forward to a relaxing stay among friends in Pianello. If it still fits into the family schedule, we look forward to staying in the caseletto from about July 9 until the end of the month.
In the 16th century, the Flemish printer and publisher Christoffel Plantin (1520-1589) wrote his creed in a sonnet. I quote only the first four lines of the poem.
Avoir une maison commode, propre et belle.
Un jardin tapisser d'espaliers d'odorans,
Des fruits, d'exellent vin, peu de train, peu d'enfants,

I appreciate his attempt to describe the good life, but he missed the sun and Lake Como when he imagined "heaven on earth."
Vera took an Italian language course last winter. We will now know what to order in the Italian restaurant. My Italian vocabulary is limited to two words: 'pagare' and 'Grazie'. That's enough for a banker.
We will discuss today's "funny" international financial world in Pianello.
City Bank has accepted that the LDCs' debts will not be repaid and has written off $3 billion.
I'm counting the days when I can leave the banking world behind for 3 weeks of civilization
