Dear Mohammad,
In the Northern Hemisphere it is common to cheer each other up at this time of year, when the days (daylight) are getting shorter.
Even the Christian religion has made the festival of the birth of Jesus Christ to take place in the dark time of the year to bring joy into the hearts of humanity. This celebration is immediately followed by the changing of the calendar year celebration. Then the light slowly returns.
Mohammad, against all odds, we wish 1988 to be a peaceful year for your people. It's a shame that we still behave the way we do in the twentieth century. A Dutch writer noted: "Seen from the moon, all people look alike."
The American poet Ezra Pound (1885-1972) wrote:
"When I carefully consider the curious habits of dogs, I am compelled to conclude that man is the superior animal.
When I consider the curious habits of man, I confess, my friend, I am puzzled."
