A.D. Dirkzwager Oranje Nassaulaan 38 3161 BC Rhoon Mr and mrs Enrico Segre Milano Rhoon, Sunday, 11 september 1988 "Do not go gentle into that great night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light." Dylan Thomas (1914-1935) Dear Madame Maria and Enrico, Thank you for your letter sharing the news of Mr. Hunger's death. It's always sad when someone you had great respect for passes away. A man of great prestige and for me an example of growing old with dignity. He has succumbed to the accumulation of years. I tend to think that when you reach the age of Top Hunger and your curiosity and interest in what is happening in the world around you continues until the last week of your life, then death is not an enemy. The quote from Dylan Thomas (1914-1953) in the heading of this letter is more likely an expression of my feelings as someone who has been left behind. Any how, there is a saying that someone really disappears into oblivion when the last man who knew you has died. And I myself, expect to continue to live for at least another forty years. We have now been on holiday in Pianello for seven consecutive years. I never took a photo of Mr. Top Hunger before July 29, 1988. The attached photo was taken on July 29, 1988. At the end of our vacation I went to his house to say goodbye and asked him if I could take his photo. I'm glad I asked. Thank you again for your kind letter. Take good care of yourself. Don't get pneumonia this time! Please convey my respects to Madame Maria and the entire family. We all know: "Ars longa, vita brevis" The fact that we die is not a deception, but because it always comes at an inopportune time, it worries us. Many greetings+ love from Vera & Adriaan -
