The cause is the prepared mind and the resulting chance is coined: "Serendippety", door Robert Walpole (1676-1745).

During the 17.5 years we had our residence in Rhoon, we were always prepared to leave this village at a suitable moment.
It happened at half past one in the morning during a student association reunion in Utrecht: a former member who knew me vaguely struck up a conversation and told me he had an apartment available in a historic building in the center of Amsterdam. We went to take a look right away the next day.
We liked the surroundings, but the interior needed to be completely renovated.
The subconscious desire to leave Rhoon suddenly turned into a strong urge.
When we decided to buy the apartment *in statu nascendi*—based on architectural drawings approved by the Municipality of Amsterdam—we received two types of reactions: some thought we belonged in a lunatic asylum, while others were enthusiastic and envied us.
"Que sera sera", what will be will be.
Floris concluded his round-the-world trip on December 31, 1997, in the company of his family, who were on holiday in Klosters, Switzerland.
At the same hotel, I met a board member from the accounting firm Moret, Ernst & Young. On New Year's Eve, at 7:00 p.m., I introduced Floris to Mr. Sanders. The introduction went like this: "Hello, I'm Floris, and I'm going straight to bed." (His excuse was jet lag.)
Two days after his arrival in Rhoon, he received an invitation for an interview and underwent a psychological test with a very satisfactory result; I expected him to be offered a job.

Under the sales contract, we are required to hand over our house in Rhoon to the buyers by January 31, 1997. Because the renovation of our apartment on the Keizersgracht in Amsterdam has been delayed, we will not be able to move in for another three months.
