Dear Pat and Ferrell,
I was an eyewitness to the second crash on September 11 at the WTC Tower in New York, due to the despicable acts of suicide bombers. Through you we express our condolences to the entire country. My son Reinoud called me immediately after a plane crashed into the first tower to turn on the TV.
The world had become a village and a family of men.
We mourn with you and feel united and also believe that the evil genius should be severely punished. Not the death penalty, that's too human. In the Middle Ages, some castles had an extra guard below the regular dungeon. The deeper carcer was connected by bars on the upper level.
Its height was no more than one meter. Once you were sentenced to the bottom mortician, say twenty years, you were essentially buried alive. When it came to food, you were dependent on what the prisoners above you wanted to share.
It is the American psychologist, behaviorist and social philosopher B.F. Skinner (1904-1990) who taught us that the consequences of our dealings determine our behavior.
I pray that the President will not order the regular military to mobilize for all-out war against any country. I cannot imagine the consequences of more acts of suicide. It will be an A-semitric war.
Think of the anti-Semitic war between the Israeli army and then the Palestinian youth, together with the fundamentalist suicide bombers. An army cannot defeat invisible terrorists who have no other goal than destroying Western civilization.
These terrorists challenge the West to use their highly sophisticated weaponry. It will bring further chaos and recession and that is their objective.
No, instead we should legalize the same practices as they employ. Infiltrations, whilst infringing on privacy laws and political killings inside and outside the USA of state enemies are permitted. In a similar way we, in Europe, should step up the same counter attacks and counter measures, as an answer in case of need.
We trust that G.W.President Bush and his administration will take appropriate action to find those responsible and that he will not indulge in unwise actions to prove his leadership.
