De ijdeltuit, die in mij woont, bewaart brieven. Ik kan mijn gedachten, ook al zijn die vastgelegd in de kopie van een brief, toch niet zomaar in de prullenbak gooien. De adressant aan ommezijde is ooit eens mijn baas geweest, toen ik nog voor de Lloyds Bank Plc werkte. Deze krabbels dienen als begeleidende brief van een recente krantenpublicaties over NUMICO (voorheen Nutricia). Of de verwachtingen, die CEO Jan Bennink schept, uitkomen is nog maar de grote vraag? "Que sera, que sera." Ik zou een particulier belegger niet aanraden om in Numico te beleggen, tenzij hij een bedrag opzij kan zetten voor speculatie. Het negatieve eigenvermogen van Numico i.e. €469 miljoen is voor mij dat het signaal op rood staat!
Deze week logeerde mijn 86 jarige moeder (tante Bertie) bij ons in Amsterdam. In twee dagen tijd 3 museums bezocht met haar. Ik hoop, dat ik ook zo gracieus oud kan worden. Doe veel liefs aan Johanna en aan allen, die ons een goed hart toedragen. Vera & Aadje

Thank you for your comments on the world-outlook to-day. The world has become a global village thanks to the satellite connections. The advantages are numerous and so are the disadvantages. For instance, the proliferation of all sort of sensitive information via internet to the wrong type of persons.
Yet all the political institutions are regional institutions. These bodies primary objectives are to see to it that the living conditions of their own population will not deteriorate relative to those of others.
They do not entertain a longterm view on global issues. I recall the intellectual exercise on depleting ressources from MIT as being a last effort to present a longterm view, which would affect mankind. Later it has been derided. In hindsight every fool is wise. At least it has been a laudable exercise.
But what we dearly need is a supranational authority, which has the power to deal with the longterm impact on a number of issues. I name one: OVERPOPULATION. What will be the threats of the overpopulation?
In my opinion all future problems will emanate from the fact that the world is being overpopulated. Today the tally is 6.2 billion people. All circumstances staying equal, the world population will increase to 9 billion in 2050. What are the ramifications of such an increase in numbers? I sincerely do not believe that the world (nature/ecology/milieu environment/ hole in the ozon layer/energy) can cope with a living standard for the whole world population at the level, we enjoy today in Europe and in America. There is no existing regulating supranational authority who presents a view. I can foresee a doomsday scenario as a result of the prevailing 'catch as catch can’ philosophy of the present day politicians/nations.
Limited access to clean water, proliferation nuclear knowledge, unjust distribution of wealth in the world, no fair distribution of fossil energy, etc. are an enumerative summing up for a reason to begin a war. 'You ain't nothing seen yet', to use a phrase of poor Ronald Reagan.
I wrote you ly above concern in may 2002.
Interesting is the political stance stance between Europe and the US in respect of the International Criminal Court. Will the European countries close ranks or be driven apart on this issue?
I know we only scratched the surface of what could be discussed by two intelligent gentlemen. Even we didn't broached on the Euro. The month November is testing time for for the Euro !
Love from us both and like Nelson (1758-1801): "I expect every Englishman to do his duty," to achieve for a better world.
