Genus: Armigatus Grande, 1982
Age: Upper Cretaceous- 100 million years
Locality: Haqil- Byblos - Lebanon
Geographical distribution: Middle East
Features: Small oval-shaped fish with dorsal fin in the middle of the back.
Characterized by scuts or dorsal bone patches on the two-thirds of the
distance between the dorsal fin and the skull.
Remarks: First Lebanese species to be described by De Blainville in
1818, under the name of Clupea brevissima. It was called later on
Diplomystus brevissimus and receive in the 80s its present day name
Armigatus brevissimus (de Blainville, 1818)
Recent relatives: Genus close to present day sardines and herrings.
