Dear Stuart,
The day before yesterday, the Dutch people celebrated the king's birthday. The king and his family visit a chosen city for a walk of about three hours. The city organizes a showcase of its history, its typical features and all kinds of cultural presentations.
This annual meet and greet event of the King and Queen with ordinary people is broadcast on television and turns them into rock stars of sorts. They are cheered and in return the Royals squeeze the meat along the way. This year the chosen city was Amersfoort. Images can convey the event better than words. AdriaanDD
